How the "Bagtit" name came into view..

This Blog is a living witness of my enthusiasms to hike mountains and hills, my greatest ambition in life. The love of nature and rediscovering the wilderness! Come and join me in my spectacular journey, witnessing the beauty of the Philippines and other places that links to God's Creations. Embrace God's love by descovering the streams, rivers, sea's and mountains which the whole univers may offer.

April 16, 2011 when the bloggers decided to hike together with friends, Jane Ian (middle) and Neddy (Right), were about to hike Mt. Romelo at Siniloan Laguna. That time, I doubt if I could climb that mountain with a maximum elevation of 300 MASL thinking that this is my first climb in Luzon, the very first was in Mindanao. The moment we started hiking, my friends Jane Ian suggested that we need to have a group name, and she suggested the name "BAGTIT" or "KABAGTIT"! According to her this is the literal  ilocano word which means "crazy" or in tagalog "loka loka",hmmmm indeed Jane, that was a good group name, excellent choice!!

the journey started here..

My First climbed at Mt. Romelo with my 2 kabagtits

Ordinary bus that are bound to Infanta Quezon
Our story started here where the kabagtit team aims to met up along Edsa.  We planned ahead of time that day. At  0730H  we are already on the way to our meeting places. We took a taxi going to Sampaloc Manila where the Raymond busses are stationed.

At 0930H, the group decided to take an ordinary bus bound to Infanta Quezon. It passes through Barangay Macatad where the trail going up to Mt.Romelo is nearrer. In our case we took a bus to get off at that junction so that there is  no need for us to take another ride.  You just have to tell the conductor of the bus that  you are going to hike Mt. Romelo and they will drop exactly where that start-off point is going to happen.
Raymond ticket booth

We paid for our tickets at the ticket booth.  The fare at that time was PHP130 per pax.  It was Jane who was assigned to pay our fares.

At Exactly 1400H we arrived in Barangay
Macatad.  We opted to eat first our meals along the carenderia posted  in this blog.  We just have to have one full meal before we assault to the said mountain.  Well,  this is my favorite scenario, to eat plenty, a  "live well"  principle.. ahehe..

Meanwhile, we have reached the jump-off point. We registered just incase something will happen along the way.  According to the Barangay rules they have to have records of all mountaineers for future records.

We paid 50 pesos for the registration and took some pictures with the duty personnel  who gave us some phamplets about the magestic falls of Mt. Romelo. They also offer us a guide but we already have a guide of our own. Well... the gineous Jane Ian ("Dora the explorer") of the team is our guide, She is not just even n ordinary guide but we described her "The guru" ....:)

Along the trail we passed through inland grasses, while kabags Jane Ian took some pictures as our frozen moments.  About an hour  Kabags Jane Ian told us that this would be the summit area where you can  see the peak of the said mountain.

We never encountered a muddy trail along the way, unlike like what other bloggers have encountered. Maybe because its not rainy season yet, we only have come across a horse waste, " nakakatawa man isipin".  Would you believe "na ito daw ang landmark na maglelead sayo from the camp?" this is according to our very own guide JANE :)

As we pass through the trail we never noticed that the sun is beginning to fade, so we set aside the picture takings and prepared ourselves for the night trek, we swiftly geared up the headlight and flashlights in my backpack. I had the battery ready just incase, its very unforgettable experience, yes, indeed... "sulit ika nga".

sun  set at the summit

Past 2 1/2 hours when we reached almost 3/4 of the mountain trail, when you looked around the sky is started to get dark and the wind blows swiftly.  I actually started to worry since we all knew that the sun will no longer be our light, and knowing that the dark will be our barrier.  But we never quit, positively we reached our goal.  We beat the anxiety and finally we reached the water source were we can pitch a tent. Technically we are all very tired and drained but I swear its woth it!

Dinner with my kabagtit
need a power nap just ease the tiring day

After the tiring trail the team  has rested through the night. Recharging an energy again for tommorrow's agenda.  Just below the campsite you can witness the pristine beauty of Buruwisan falls were all you need is just to descend a little.  There are two ways  to get into the famous Buruwisan falls, first you need to descend barefoot just below where we campped, and the other way was  to rapel below from the top of the falls were the water is running down, so you can try any one of it. why not huh??

the source were Buruwisan falls

The next day, we prepared our breakfast before we went down  to the waterfall. According to locales and fellow mountaineers there are 4 waterfalls in Mt. Romelo, Buruwisan (the famous one), Sampaloc, Lanzones, and the Batya Batya falls.   All of which can be reached anytime but since we only have ample time,  Buruwisan falls  was the only falls the team has visited :(

the travelers stars!
Fulfilling!, that was the word that came into my mind. Trully natures is the art of God!  It was  fun! "petiks"  climb lang...para ka lang naglalakad sa bukid...walang kahiraphirap... to me but its really really woth it..

As I have climbed this mountain down through its magestic waterfalls, I remembered the quotations which I have memorized when I was in High school..

"I am in love with this world . . . I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings". --- John Burroughs

I climbed and will climb again and again. Continue climbing just to enjoy nature. Mountains, forest  are reflections of God's Love to us , which provides shelters to all living creatures and we as a human are entitled to take care of our resources... every resources is a gift from God.  It is a perfect gift from the Greatest Architect
